Padua

 

Padova was the birthplace of the historian Tito Livio.The cultural tradition of this town went on trough the Middle Ages thanks to its important University. The cathedral is consecreted to Sant'Antonio who died here in1231. The altar and the monument dedicated to Gattamelata, that stands in the square, are by Donatello.

But gem of Padova is the "Cappella degli Scrovegni" completly frescoed by the great medieval painter Giotto, and the baptistry frescoed by Giusto de Menabuoi.

Dont'miss to visit the surrounding countries, the river Brenta with its villas where Franscesco Petrarca, the author of "Il Canzoniere", spent a long time.

Not far there are the spa of Albano, Montegrotto and Recoaro.
