Vicenza, of Roman origins, became a free city-state during the Middle Age, and later was under the power of the Serenissima (Venice). Rich and imposing palaces show the splendour of this period, palace Chiericati houses at present an interesting Art Gallery.
The Gothic Duomo and the Rennaissance cathedral, masterpiece of Andrea Palladio, are the famous monuments of this town.This important architect who wrote "Quattro Libri dell'Architettura" designed also several villas as the so called Valmanara frescoed by Tiepolo amd the famous La Rotonda.
